ADS-B stands for Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast. This reports the aircraft position to controllers. Think of every app you use to track aircraft in flight.

Here's what you do in Linux.

mkdir adsb

cd adsb

sudo git clone git://

cd dump1090

sudo make

now you can test it by typing

./dump1090 —-interactive

what you'll see is the information in the terminal window. As you can see I'm tracking several aircraft but only 2 are reporting latitude and longitude.

In order to see the interactive map with the yellow triangles depicting aircraft will move…….you need to issue this command:

./dump1090 —-interactive —-net

Now open a browser and type:

And you'll see the interactive map

Very, very cool.
