Updating TeamWin Recovery with a Mac.

you followed my previous web page and rooted your Nexus 7 it pushed a Custom Recovery to your device called TWRP or Team Win Recovery Project. The version it pushes is and that’s all good and well but as of this writing they are currently up to Version

I’ve done everything to try to update to no avail. My first attempt was to hook my new Nexus 7 (flo) up to my PC and run the Nexus Root Toolkit to update it. Guess what. is the best I get. Then I downloaded the latest upgrade file and went to a command prompt in Nexus Root Toolkit and installed it via a fast boot command. Hurray that worked but every time I tried to exit TeamWin it says my Super User file permission are hosed. Slide to fix it says, so I slide to fix, reboot into recovery mode and it does it again.

I seriously fear my full backups are not going to work with file permissions issues. What to do, what to do.

By far the easiest thing to do is to install the app GooManager and let it update the TeamWin custom recovery but for some reason it wasn’t working for me on my Nexus 7.2 (2013).

Every single time I did this and screwed up I went back to my Mac Nexus Root Toolkit

It gives me a zip file with these contents:

What you do is click on the file Root Nexus 7, follow the directions and it flashes the openrecovery file that says to your device.

What if, just if I open the Root Nexus 7 file with a text editor?

Sure enough there are two entries that mention the file version

Just edit them to say like this:

Now save it in a new folder. Copy all the other files and drag them in with the exception of the openrecovery file Replace it with your newly downloaded file from TeamWin download page for Nexus 7

You’ll end up looking like this:

Click on the little green android guy on your newly modified file and it’ll install openrecovery (and hopefully later versions the same way)
